Eldoret-based lawyer Simon Lilan, who claimed former politician Mark Too was assassinated, now wants the body exhumed. The lawyer went missing after expressing fears for his life and resurfaced from his hideout over the weekend. Mr Lilan vowed to unearth the cause of the former nominated MP’s death, saying there were too many unanswered questions.
Speaking in Eldoret yesterday, the lawyer said he was forced to seek refuge in one of the foreign embassies in Nairobi after police failed to protect him despite his death threat claims. But in an interesting twist, police in Eldoret said they were looking for Lilan’s brother for allegedly giving false information about his disappearance.
The circus on this issue is when they hurriedly buried him when an independent autopsy was required. This matter will only rest when I establish the truth about Too’s death. I will not relent in my pursuit of the truth because I don’t backtrack on something I start. I know there are powerful forces after my life,” he said. Lilan also accused the police of obstructing a court process server from serving the order to stop Too’s burial at the deceased’s Maziwa Farm in Kapsaret constituency.
He claimed security officers were deployed to the farm during the burial to ensure that the order was not served. He said this was an attempt to intimidate a judicial process. The controversial lawyer went missing on January 9. His lawyer, Morgan Omusundi, said they would make an application for the exhumation orders.
