President Uhuru Kenyatta led other leaders in mourning the late governor Nderitu Gachagua during his burial ceremony on Monday, March 2.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga was also present at the ceremony where he eulogised Gachagua as one of the few leaders who allowed him to campaign in the county.
During his speech, Raila said the event was to celebrate Gachagua’s life and therefore he avoided touching on political issues despite being an election year.
In a rare moment, Uhuru agreed with him and stated he never thought he would send off Gachagua and even end up agreeing with Raila.
“I never thought i will be here to send off Gachagua and even agree with Raila at the same event,(ya Mungu ni mengi),” he said as the crowd roared with laughter.
Uhuru also eulogised Gachagua as a committed and true servant of the people who was committed to his work.
The late governor was laid to rest on Monday, March 6 at his Hiriga home in Mathira at a ceremony graced by several leaders including retired president Mwai Kibaki, 35 governors among others.
